My Etsy Shop!

I’ve totally revamped my Etsy shop, and am adding new prints for sale on a regular basis. Right now, I’m doing cute little 4″ x 4″ prints, and trying to put up a nice variety. Check it out and buy something, if you’re so inclined.

It’s at tomorrowville.etsy.com

Brian

While sipping a cup of coffee at Avoca today, I heard a voice off to the side asking “Can I take your photo?” As I am usually the one doing the photography, rather than the subject, it took a few moments for me to process the request before I turned to see the face of somebody I only knew from social media – fellow local photographer Brian Carroll.

Brian has a Blipfoto site ( www.blipfoto.com/blowfishmouth/ ), and one of the things he’s been trying to do is take a regular series of portraits of people around town. I happened to be in the right place at the right time today, so I said yes…provided I was also allowed to take some of him, of course. (Hey, a guy’s gotta feed his Flickr habit.)

So, while he snapped some of me with his Nikon DSLR, I pulled my Olympus Pen out of my bag and grabbed a few.

I’d like to get more brave, and be able to approach people and ask if I can take their portrait, like Brian does. It’s a skill I have not yet aquired, being so used to architectural photography.

Patio at Cafe Modern

Outdoor dining area at Cafe Modern, the restaurant at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando).

Really is a fantastic piece of architecture, this place. Doesn’t look like most people’s stereotypical idea of “Fort Worth”.

A Gentle Glow Falls Through the Window

Finally dipping my toe into the world of non-toy-camera medium-format film photography. Here’s the first shot from my late 1930s Rolleicord II.

Looking out past one of the forty-foot-tall Y-columns at the Modern Art Musem of Fort Worth, a stunning piece of architecture by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.

As different as using film cameras in general is these days, using the Rolleicord is like being in another world. Besides the TLR design to get used to, you also become an attraction unto yourself – I get more questions and inquiries from passersby when using the Rollei than with just about any camera. I understand – it’s definitely not something you see every day.
